Fortnum and Mason is well known for its high quality, luxurious product offering, enticing counters and beautiful interior decor. In the downstairs food hall the theme is romance with speciality chocolates, bottles of champagne and heart shaped biscuits on display.
However, an unusual twist has been taken on snacking and alcohol with a dedicated area devoted to mouth watering luxuries such as toasted Scorpions, Morpane Worms, BBQ Flavour Worm Crisps, Chocolate Covered Scorpions, Bug lollipops, Toffee Scorpion Candy, Reindeer Pate, Edible English Garden Worm Gin and Scorpion Vodka. The Chinese scorpions are heat treated to remove toxins. The range, also stocked by Harvey Nichols and Selfridges is by the Edible Kitchen and prices are from £4.95 to £15.00.
This trend has also been spotted in restaurants throughout London with grasshoppers, scorpions, crickets and meal worms on menus in Archipelago, Apothecary Bar and Wahaca.
