New York is the city that never sleeps, and it’s no surprise – now that residents can satisfy their midnight sweet tooth cravings round the clock. Nationwide bakery/confectionery chain Sprinkles has rolled out its first 24 hour Cupcake ‘ATM ’ in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The new touchscreen device operates like a hybrid ATM-vending machine – the user simply swipes a card, selects their order, and after an approximately 10 second wait (New Yorkers are busy people!), is presented with their chosen cupcake in attractive packaging. The machine offers a choice of nine varieties at present: vanilla, black & white, dark chocolate, lemon meringue, red velvet, strawberry, chocolate coconut, Cuban coffee or vanilla milk chocolate. Individual cupcakes are priced at $4.25 (approx €3). Sprinkles assures customers that the machine is restocked several times a day, guaranteeing the cupcakes will always be fresh.
Simplicity, convenience and a novel approach to traditional bakery are the driving forces – This growing expectancy for unlimited access to sweet treats at any hour can be encapsulated in Bord Bia’s ‘Fluid Lives’ consumer lifestyle trend.
